New Rihanna ad 21st century cool & santanic?

More and more each day print becomes obsolete. No matter whether its blogs edging out magazines or news websites getting more views than newspapers could ever sell in a year, the future is gaining on the past. Typically when new fragrances are released companies run a series of ads in magazines with little sample strips of said fragrance. But Rihanna and perfume company Parlux fragrances have decided to use 21st century marketing tactics and are going to focus its efforts on an online video; which is already stirring up controversy.

There are a lot of cool things to be observed in the new ad that one may not realize at first. For one the ad correlates to the name and purpose of the fragrance beautifully. Reb’l Fleur as you guessed means Rebel Flower and is meant to bring out both the flowery and rebellious sides.

These elements are depicted in the online ad. For half the video Rihanna lounges in dare I say a “vagina esque” flower and frolics in a lush garden in a peach dress.Then at the midway point she steps through a mirror and comes out wearing a black funeral dress with a sultry expression on her face. While in the mirror Rihanna is sensually hugged from a shadowy tuxedo clad stranger from behind.

The cool thing about the ad is on most versions a special video player is used where the video can be played in either direction. So one way you have Rihanna going from good (flower) to bad (rebellious) or vice versa. One direction shows Rihanna stepping towards the stranger while the other direction shows her backing away. The interesting part is the way the video was designed and choreographed make it hard for viewers to discern which way the video was initially filmed or intended to be viewed. There is no way to tell; the executive producer explained that in some shots Rihanna was even filmed walking backwards to help reinforce the hidden element.

Some viewers are calling the video satanic, I personally don’t see it. Something about the multiple hands covering her eyes is symbolism of some ancient pagan satanic ritual. Looks like the usual good girl gone bad gimmick Rihanna constantly uses to me. What do you guys think leave your thoughts below.
